In fall of 2012 I moved! I was lucky enough to find an older home in my favorite neighborhood. The bonus is that it is a five minute walk for my son to school.
My last home was a combination of my tastes, and my ex husbands. I wanted this to be pure me and totally different! I had been gravitating towards a more modern and streamlined look in the past few years and decided that I wanted more of it. My vision immediately conjured up a warm but modern esthetic mostly in the grey tones. I new I wanted some rustic and natural elements in the room with some fun accessories to keep it light and approachable. My daughter and son really wanted to use the front living room as a family room for TV viewing and generally hanging out. I readily agreed.
The fireplace was the original and I really liked the stone. It has many shades of grey…..(mind out of the gutter!) I decided to remove the mantle and replace it with a beam. After sourcing one locally I cut it to size and then sanded the paint off and washed it with a soft grey color. The built-in bookcase was painted out the same color (Street Chic – CSP 45) as the wall and filled with some of my favorite books. The space is narrow, so I purchased a condo size sofa with chaise from Urban Barn in a durable dark grey fabric and an adorable pouffe. The large chair and half is purchased and upholstered from Switch Studio and the smaller leather one is from West Elm. I originally purchased a beautiful wood and metal industrial style coffee table from my very own Paint It Like New!, but realized it was better off in the rec room were it has some room to be admired! I purchased two small glass nesting tables from Bou Claire and they definitely fit the bill without crowding. The fun pillows, one in a graphic cow hide and the white hairy lama pillow are from Mobilia and the two pillows on the chairs, are also from West Elm. Having only been in the house three months (and Christmas thrown in for good measure) I haven’t really had too much time to play with the accessories, but really when is one really ever truly finished!!??
