Our summer is short in Canada. Enjoying our backyard, patio or deck is foremost in our minds at the first whiff of warm weather. Most of us invest in nice furniture to relax and entertain. We plan on storing it in the winter months or at the very least covering it from the elements, but we don’t always manage to do it! Our cold, wet and snowy winters can leave our beautiful wrought iron, teak, aluminum and wicker tired looking.
We can spray outdoor furniture all year long. Most people bring it to us, just before the weather turns mild. We have seen everything from expensive brand name wrought iron, wicker and rattan or inexpensive mix and match sets. Similarly to our indoor furniture, you can unify all of your pieces by re-spraying it a new colour. Most customers opt for a new fresh colour. Just like fashion, we see new and wonderful colours each season. One of the joys of our shop is the incredible choice of colours that Sherwin Williams provides to us and our customers.
With outdoor furniture we use an exterior line of paints. You can choose most colours from our fan decks. There are three choices of sheens, semi gloss, low lustre and flat. We suggest that you use semi gloss for any wicker to add life and “moisture” back into the piece. Rattan looks great in any sheet and the same goes for metal.
Some customers will decide to change their whole look. This may mean that they also get the cushions recovered too! Outdoor friendly materials allow longer durability and less likelihood of mold or mildew. I wouldn’t recommend leaving them out in the rain, but they will certainly be less likely to fade and I personally find them more durable than regular fabrics. A tidy, waterproof container near the house is a great idea to keep them handily ready and also dry! Most discount decorating stores will have spring and summer sales, so it is easy to add additional pillows as the season unfolds. Co-ordinating outdoor dishes can be inexpensive if you are consistent with your colour scheme. I suggest going for white plates and bowls then add in beautiful napkins and plants to bring in colour. If some crack or break (which they do over time) simply buy another four plates in white even if it a different style. You can also pick up great colours from certain grocery stores etc for a couple of dollars a piece. A set I used in our summer 2009 showroom cost me $25.00 for everything! The tan and white place settings looked wonderful against the black of the table and chairs.
